Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2022-2035, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2014

Mid crimson. Tense, rather agricultural nose. Very dense charge of tannins. Deep and dark. A compost of agricultural flavours. Put this away for a long time! Lots of muscle. (JR)

If Parussi is characterized by lingering floral notes, the 2010 Barolo Margheria remains focused on red fruit and shades of exotic fruit. This is a big, bold expression of Nebbiolo with deep structure and velvety, rich tannins. Some 24 months in barrel given the wine bold aromatic intensity with soft tones of red cherry, cassis, leather and tobacco. The wine is only at the humble beginning of its evolutionary course and Barolo Margheria is definitely among Massolino’s most age-worthy expressions. Those tannins need a few more years to soften compared to the Barolo Parussi. Drink: 2018-2033. Importer: Vineyard Brands, www.vineyardbrands.com

Serralunga d'Alba. Youthful mid ruby. Much more compelling than the straight Serralunga. Much finer, sweet strawberry fruit. Elegant and with powerful tannins. Complete and clearly showing its origin. (WS)

Iron, smoke, tar, plum and black cherry are some of the many notes that take shape in the 2010 Barolo Margheria. A deep, resonant wine, the Margheria captures an attractive middle ground in this vintage. It can be enjoyed with minimum cellaring because of its pliancy, but also has enough depth to age gracefully for years. Aromatic nuance, expressive fruit and fabulous balance are among the hallmarks in a Barolo that captures the essence of Serralunga. Violets, lavender and new leather flesh out on the inviting finish. This is also the deepest and darkest of the Massolino 2010s.
