Just mid ruby. Sweet nose with a little bit of oak. Surprisingly open fruit on the palate but with a big load of tannins on the finish. Typical Serralunga. (WS)

The 2008 Barolo Baudana blossoms in the glass with rich, expansive layers of fruit that totally saturate the palate. Stylistically, the Baudana is more polished and refined than the Ceretta. Textured and inviting, the Baudana is a wine that conquers all the intellectual and hedonistic senses. I loved it. This is an especially round, sweet style for Serralunga. I am not sure how it will age, but it is singing today.
The 2008 Barolo is a pretty, entry-level offering. Dry cherries, plums, incense and tobacco are some of the notes that come to life. This fleshy, supple Barolo is a great introduction to the re-born Baudana estate, and also a great choice for drinking while the single-vineyard selections age in the cellar. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. I remain utterly amazed at the total transformation that has occurred under the hands of the Vajra family at what was once the old dilapidated Baudana estate, and the best is yet to come. Dark crimson. Looks more like a Bordeaux, still with some blue notes. Savoury tobacco notes. Have a horrid feeling I might even take this for a Tempranillo blind. Maybe not on the palate where there is an appetising, attractive dryness and tang. Relatively forward. You could almost drink this already. (JR)
