Still closed on the nose, but has stunning palate complexity. Tannins that need decades. Dry, austere and almost severe. Not exactly 'pretty' but undeniably impressive. (RH)

Good full red. Less fruity and more medicinal on the nose than the regular Sarmassa, showing a ripe cherry scent as the wine opened in the glass. Bigger and sweeter but quite primary; really saturates the mouth without leaving any impression of weight. The strong, juicy red fruit and iron flavors build on the finish, with the tannins arriving late. This impressive wine should enjoy a graceful evolution in bottle.

Barolo. Concentrated ruby. Candied fruit and vanilla hints with captivating layer of dark fruit unerneath. Muscular tannin. Herbal note on the finish. (WS)

The 2007 Barolo Bricco Sarmassa is one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Brezza. The open, radiant personality of the vintage meets a firm sense of structure in this deep, gorgeous Barolo. The perfume of Cannubi meets the depth and structure of Sarmassa as this selection – from the best part of the Sarmassa vineyard – shows off its class and pedigree. Fat, rich and enveloping, the Bricco Sarmassa possesses dazzling persistence on the palate and a sensual personality while maintaining a clear expression of classicism. Smoke, tar and iron are some of the nuances that add gravitas to the muscular finish. The Bricco Sarmassa is a striking wine in every way.
