Good full red. Pure aromas and flavors of strawberry, raspberry, minerals, flowers and earth. A very suave and silky wine with lovely lift and precision. The penetrating, long finish features very good cut but no dryness. A distinctly feminine, tangy style of Corton-very easy to drink.

(45-year-old vines; racked two months before my visit) Good medium red. Pure aromas of cherry and minerals. Juicy, lively and fine-grained; less plump than the Volnays. In fact, this is quite delicate and pure, with sharply delineated flavors of red berries, spices and minerals. Here, too, the racking has radically transformed the young wine. Finishes with very fine tannins and excellent thrust.
Cask sample 1: Very full and rich and dense. A bright firework of fruit. Powerful, though the wood is a little obvious. Cask sample 2: Very little nose. Lots of rich fruit. Almost unreadable at this stage. (JR)

Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
