Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2013-2024, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jul 2020

The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is showing well, and indeed, this may well be the one Carillon 2009 that surpasses its 2008 counterpart. Unfurling in the glass with an inviting bouquet of buttered orchard fruit, white peach, blanched almonds and fresh croissants, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and an expansive finish. This is drinking well today and I'm not sure there's appreciable upside, but it's a delicious bottle.

Pale yellow. Discreet, very pure aromas of peach blossom and spices. Drier and less open than the Champs-Canet but larger-scaled, despite the fact that this is from younger vines (19 years old, vs. about 40). Good underlying minerality gives the wine solid structure, but there's less early fat here. Carillon says that the vines' roots are now going deeper, hence the greater minerality in the wine. I'd give this three to five years in the cellar before pulling the cork.

Lemony and quite tight. Good density and some reverberation. A good wine! Not desperately intense but well balanced.

Pale color, a bit more green than the Champs Canet. High-pitched, vibrant aromas of lime, white peach, spices and stone. Sweet, fruity and pure; more showy today than the Champs Canet, which is from older vines (38 years, vs. 17 for the Combettes). Carillon warns that the 2005 was similarly easy to taste at the same stage but then closed down.
