Mid crimson. Lightweight, low-key nose. Sweet start and then a bit of acidity and some rather green tannins. Pretty astringent finish. Maybe with a bit more time this will blossom? (JR)

A bit dusty on the nose and lightish in terms of body. Slightly tart on the end. Slightly meagre but certainly 'classic'. Falls away a bit fast. (JR)
Blackish and dense. Sweet and rather voluptuous – especially for a 1996! You could already enjoy this, although it is nervy and should improve. (JR)
Savoury, almost cheesey, nose. Minty cassis hints too. Rather an old-fashioned wine – no concessions to tannin management. Authentic Pauillac but some will find the dustiness offputting but there is lots of integrity here. (JR)
