In many respects, this wine typifies Batailley and the style of wine so often produced there--dark ruby, with a bouquet that offers ripe fruit, some mild oaky notes, but not much complexity. On the palate, the wine is chunky and fleshy, with good concentration, firm tannins, and a monolithic personality. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 6/87.

It was on the site of Batailley in 1453 that one of the final battles (or “batailles”) of the Hundred Years’ War took place. Today owned by the Castéja family, the Fifth Growth is renowned for producing wine that is the epitome of classic Claret.
