Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2014

Alessandria's 1999 Barolo is an excellent choice for readers who want to experience a fully mature Barolo. Smoke, worn-in leather, tobacco, spices and cedar are some of the many notes that flesh out in this full-bodied, intense Barolo. The aromatics are a bit developed, but there is more than enough fruit to allow the 1999 to drink well for at least another few years. This intriguing Barolo is highly expressive today, not to mention immensely pleasing.

Dark ruby. Alessandria's Barolo normale presents a highly attractive combination of floral notes and ripe red fruit on a medium-bodied frame with an excellent sense of balance and proportion. Already quite accessible for the vintage, it should provide pleasurable drinking over the next decade or so.

The 1999 Barolo is an excellent example of the house style in the fine balance of the oak spices, floral, and licorice notes of the aromas and the ripe fruit, round texture, and tar and minerals of the palate. Harmonious, polished, and poised, it is a superior regular bottling, to drink from 2005 to 2018. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. Medium-deep red. Youthfully aggressive nose hints at menthol and tobacco. Fresh on entry, then quite firm, even backward, in the middle palate, with notes of redcurrant, tobacco and mint. Finishes with toothcoating, slightly drying tannins.
