Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2020-2040, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jul 2020

From magnum, Pierre-Yves Colin's 2008 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is still youthful and introverted, unwinding in the glass with notes of lemon oil, mandarin, wet stones, freshly baked bread and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, tensile and incisive, it's racy and structured, with a delicate core of fruit and a long, precise finish. This Chevalier's best days still appear to be ahead of it, especially in magnum.

Fragrant and mineral at the same time. Such delicacy. Then amazing intensity on the palate, drives with real determination and power yet sleek and dry and no edges. Totally focused. This had only 2/3 malo (usually his wines go through 100% malo). Going back to the empty glass, there is a creaminess from the deliciously smart oak. (JH)

40-year-old vines. Racked three weeks before tasting. So much more discreet and sleek than the Bâtard on the nose and then wonderfully complex and beautifully balanced . Such elegant austerity. Wonderful balance. Much ‘cooler’ than the Bâtard. Soul of discretion. What a diplomat, but one who writes learned books. One barrel. (JR)

The 2008 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a taut nose, quite backward considering that it has a few miles on the clock. Yet it opens with aeration, offering lemon thyme and almond scents, wild fern and dry hay. The mineralité kind of “seeps” through with time. The palate delivers the complexity one expects from a Chevalier-Montrachet, touches of peach skin and chamomile interlacing the lemony fruit, leading to a linear, strict finish that implies there is more to give. It is a class act.
