Punteggio 91+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2005

Cooler aromas of Granny Smith apple, crushed stone and menthol; hints at an almost medicinal austerity. Then broad and dry, even a bit strict. Showing less flavor today than the superb Batard, but this is extremely backward. A strong wet stone character gives the long finish a faint hard edge.

The 2003 Chevalier-Montrachet (white) bursts from the glass with complex aromas of buttered minerals, limestone, and oak. Boasting an extremely well-balanced, feminine, and impressively persistent personality, it reveals butter-drenched toast as well as minerals in its liquid satin-like character. This plush effort has terrific underlying focus, grace, and style. Projected maturity: now-2014. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083

Punteggio 93-96/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2004

Vibrant aromas of apple, minerals and spring flowers. Wonderfully precise and pure in the mouth, with flavors similar to the aromas. An amazingly solid, tactile wine with near-crystalline purity and terrific inner-mouth vibrancy. Builds impressively and goes on and on in the mouth. A knockout, and particularly impressive for the vintage. This will probably need to be cellared for at least five or six years.
