Although a bit slender, the 1999 Barbaresco Santo Stefano is in great shape tonight. Still fresh and nicely delineated, the 1999 has also aged quite well. The 1999 has always been a slender, narrowly built wine, especially next to the surrounding vintages, but tonight it is quite expressive and absolutely delicious. I would not wait too long, as the 1999 will be much less pleasurable once the modest fruit starts to fade. This is without question the best and most expressive bottle of the 1999 I have had.

Bruno Giacosa's 1999 Barbaresco Santo Stefano is still perfumed, expressive and relatively fresh within the context of the vintage. The 1999 has always been a bit slender and compact, yet it retains lovely balance and poise to match its mid-weight personality. Overall, this is a solid showing.
I am happy to see Bruno Giacosa’s 1999 Barbaresco Santo Stefano showing so well. This has never been a great vintage for the Santo Stefano, but the 1999 remains fresh, perfumed and nicely balanced.
Medium red. The most successful of these 1999 Barbarescos, the Santo Stefano offers much vibrancy and freshness in its suggestions of roses, spices, tobacco, smoke, menthol, scorched earth and red cherries. It displays excellent length and purity of expression in a less opulent style than the 2000 or 2001. This deceptively medium bodied, structured Barbaresco shut down quickly in the glass. It will be at it best after another few years of bottle age and should drink well until at least age 20. A Casa Vinicola Bruno Giacosa bottling.
