The 1978 Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d'Or is exquisite, wafting from the glass with a pure and perfumed bouquet of sweet red berries, petals, orange rind and spices. Medium-bodied, suave and seamless, with a crystalline core of fruit, melted tannins and bright but integrated acids, it concludes with a long, aromatic finish.

The 1978 Volnay Clos de la Bousse d'Or 1er Cru is one of the standouts in an up-and-down horizontal. Kudos to the late Gérard Potel. Boasting wonderful purity on the nose, this offers gorgeous red Morello cherries, crushed strawberries and hints of iron filings. The palate is framed by fine tannins, tensile and poised, imbued with crispness absent in many of its peers. Quite saline towards the finish, this is a testament to both the winemaker and a severely underrated vineyard. Magnificent. Tasted at the 1978 Bouilland horizontal.
