Airy and weightless within the context of the year, the 2012 Volnay Les Caillerets is wonderfully complete and expressive. An exotic mélange of graphite, pencil shavings, white pepper and blue fruits takes shape in a precise, chiseled Burgundy that impresses for its finely cut texture and delineation. Totally vivid in the glass, the Caillerets dazzles from start to finish. This is a great example of the vintage at its very best.

This is perhaps the ripest wine in the range with its nose of spiced plum, mocha, dark cherry liqueur and soft wood scents. There is excellent richness and mid-palate concentration to the lightly mineral-inflected flavors that possess fine persistence on the mildly austere and saline-infused finish that also displays enough asperity to notice. My score offers the benefit of the doubt that this will harmonize as it's a bit awkward today. Tasted: Apr 15, 2014. Drink: 2022+

Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
