Sweet, perfumed, creamy texture. Rather a smoothie. This wine would give you a stock market or racing tip. Big, no shortage of alcohol. Rich but rather attractive. Almost as though there is some Pinot Beurot in this. I’d love to see it next to a top Pinot Grigio. Not the most typical Chassagne. (JR)

Rich buttery scents of toasted almonds burst from the glass of the 2003 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes (white). Ample, softly-textured, and easygoing, this spicy effort displays a fresh, white fruit-filled, light to medium-bodied, straightforward character. Projected maturity: now-2009. Maison Louis Latour has numerous importers across the United States.

The Latour family has been growing vines in Burgundy since at least 1731. Their négociant business – today one of the region’s biggest names – was founded in 1797. Still family-owned today, the company owns 48 hectares of vines, 27 of which are Grand Cru, as well as its own cooperage.
