Punteggio 84/100 · Da bere 2014-2019, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is clearly a lot of stem addition showing through on the Volnay Clos des Chênes from Glantenay: an earthy, green-ish bouquet that might be described as very traditional Burgundy. But it is fresh and detailed and brimming over with character. The palate is medium-bodied with moderate weight and intensity. This is masculine, earthy, austere and aloof, perhaps a little attenuated toward the finish and needing a little more flesh to pull off this style. Consequently, it feels a little brittle and bony in the mouth.

Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2020-2035, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2012

30% new oak (his maximum). Two equal parcels: planted 1938 and 2000. Firm, bright crimson. Big and bold and very fruity. Definitely his biggest wine – great fullness and richness. Very clean and fresh overall though. Fine tannins. Great clarity and expression. Easy to see how he admires Mugnier’s wines… (JR)
