Lardiere stated that the medium to dark ruby-colored 2003 Volnay Clos des Chenes (red), an outstanding effort, had been harvested on the Thursday, the 4th of September. Its aromatic profile, composed of black cherries, blackberries, chocolate, and smoky oak, leads to a personality with gorgeous depth of fruit. Medium-bodied and satin-textured, it is redolent in mocha, chunky dark berries, and hints of licorice. Well-structured, it sports a long, fruit-filled finish. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015. Full red-ruby. Dee p aromas of roasted plum, blackberry and licorice pastille. Superripe, sweet, dense and deep; a big, broad wine with flavors of exotic spices, chocolate and mint. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and lingering sweetness.
