Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2016-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2015

Grimaldi's 2004 Barolo Le Coste, which I tasted from magnum, has developed very nicely over the last few years. Just at the beginning of its early plateau of maturity, the 2004 has enough depth and density to drink well for another decade or so. Leather, cedar, licorice and sweet tobacco overtones add the final shades of complexity.

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2007

The estate's 2004 Barolo Le Coste is the most ample and full-bodied of these Barolos. It exhibits a gorgeous expression of blueberries, spices, menthol and sweet toasted of on a structured, layered frame. Today it comes across as fairly austere, but it should develop nicely with another year or two of bottle age.

(from vines between 40 and 60 years of age) Medium-deep red. Superripe aromas of black plum and menthol. Densely packed and deep, with chewy, savory flavors of currant, tobacco, leather, chocolate and earth. A rather rigorous, uncompromising Barolo with terrific vinosity and grip. This one also will need extended aging, but appears to have the material to reward patience. Impressive.
