Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2014-2032, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, Mar 2015

Maturing mid ruby with bricky rim. Minerally nose with hints of tar spice and subdued cherry and with lots of depth. Clearly oaked yet the fruit is still juicy and supple while the (oak) tannins are just a tiny bit dry on the finish. (WS)

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2013-2021, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2012

The 2001 Barolo Brunate emerges from the glass with sweet mentholated, floral aromas and flavors. In 2001 the Brunate is quite a bit fresher than the Rocche. It possesses striking delineation and more than enough mid-palate density to drink well for a number of years. The Brunate is at the early part of its drinking window now that is has developed a measure of aromatic complexity while remaining vibrant.

Contrary to the vast majority of growers, Roberto Voerzio has always maintained that 2000 was a better vintage for him than 2001. After having tasted both vintages extensively over the last few years, its pretty clear Voerzio is right. The 2001s haven’t held up as well as the 2000s I reviewed last year and are developing at a faster pace. Not surprisingly, both of the Baroli Voerzio bottles only in magnum have developed particularly gracefully. A Leonardo Lo Cascio Selection, Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2013-2021, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2006

This series of gorgeous wines continues with a 2001 Barolo Brunate that expresses the pedigree of this famous vineyard, with its characteristic balsamic nose of menthol, eucalyptus and spices, along with generous amounts of sweet dark fruit. Voerzio's Brunate posseses great thrust on the palate with terrific length and finishes with very fine, elegant and noble tannins.
