Delicate if rather inexpressive nose hints at flowers, menthol and porcini; a bit less pure than the Referts. Suppler on entry but less sweet than the Referts; this has a rather gentle texture and an edge of acidity but could use a bit more grip. Firms up on the back half, showing a more taut minerality, but I find this a bit less ripe than the Referts, possibly the effect of some stress in these vines. This rather elegantly styled wine will need time.

Delicate lemon minerality, then this incredible punch of power on the palate, with a very savoury but not toasty oak note – as if the flavour of the oak has been swallowed by the wine but left this savoury character. Mouthwatering acidity. Long, long and long. (JH)

A wonderfully elegant but definitely restrained to the point of being almost discreet nose of pure green fruit and acacia blossom aromas blends into the delicious, intense, refined and almost aggressively mineral flavors that are nervous and penetrating on the marvelously long finish. This is not as concentrated as the best here but the balance is impeccable and there's a real sense of flair without being showy.

(vines about 22 years of age) Pale color. Subtle vanillin oak lifts the peach and nectarine aromas. Juicy, brisk and dry, with more obvious mineral tones than the Referts. Good firm, minerally, elegant wine, with very fresh acidity framing the flavors of lemon and underripe pineapple. This has 4.3 grams per liter of acidity and a pH of 3.19, according to Boudot.
