Punteggio 90+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2012

Ripe but subdued nose hints at peach and honey. Broad and plump on the palate, displaying less immediate fruit and more wet stone character than the Vergers. Round, saline and nicely concentrated wine with a touch of citrus lift on the back end.

Rich layers of yellow stone fruit, flowers and crushed rocks flesh out in the glass as the 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées opens up. This is one of the more immediate 2010s at Colin. The 2010 is best enjoyed for its up-front fruit, as some of the persistence tails off on the finish, but it is delicious.

The 2010 is best enjoyed for its up-front fruit, as some of the persistence tails off on the finish, but it is delicious. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. Bruno Colin reported that in 2010 his yields were down 10-15%, but adds some of his oldest plots were hit even harder, and came in 25-30% lower than normal. Overall, this is a solid set of wines, with plenty of vintage and site-specific character. The Bourgogne, St. Aubin Le Charmois and Chassagne villages were bottled before the 2011 harvest, while the rest of the wines were bottled in March 2012. Exuberant aromas of yellow peach, ripe pear, white pepper and spices. Broad, ripe and round, with ripe pear and stone fruit flavors complicated by a note of pineapple. Finishes with a firm citrus edge and a slight dryness from oak tannins (Colin uses 30% to 35% new oak for his crus).
