Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2012-2024, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, Sep 2014

Quite a bit sweeter and more concentrated than both the 2008 and 2007. Chewy tangy fruit that still needs to open up fully. I am told that this was a warmer vintage for Azelia than the 2007. (WS)

The 2006 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is simply magnificent. It, too, is impressively powerful, but here the layers of flavor are beautifully filled out. Exotic, ripe red fruit, smoke and menthol are but a few of the nuances that gradually emerge as this refined and impeccably elegant wine emerges from the glass. The French oak is beautifully integrated, while the wine's weight and sheer harmony leave a lasting impression.

Proprietor Luigi Scavino doesn’t get anywhere near the attention he deserves, but make no mistake about it, his top Barolos play in the same league with Piedmont’s elite bottlings. The Barolos see malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak barriques, although the Margheria is aged in medium-size French oak barrels. Good full red. Black cherry and plum aromas are complicated by a brooding medicinal element. Sweet, lush and fleshy but restrained, with good purity and considerable power to its ripe flavors of plum, strawberry, smoke and spices. A ripe, deep Barolo that finishes with serious, broad tannins and lingering sweetness.
