Punteggio 95/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2011

Pale yellow. Yellow plum, menthol, flowers and stone on the nose. Thick and fine-grained but refined; with crystallized lemon peel, stone fruit and marzipan flavors that dance on the palate. Saline, chewy and very smooth on the echoing finish, which boasts terrific lift. This is larger-scaled than the Criots-Batard and more harmonious today. Offers a rare combination of volume and cut for the year.

Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2016, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2011

The 2009 Montrachet (from the Chassagne side) comes across as weightless and somewhat reticent at the same time. All of the elements are in the right place, the wine just appears to be in shut down phase right now. This is a decidedly elegant, understated Montrachet brimming with class.

Anticipated maturity: 2016+. Richard Fontaine began harvesting the 2009s on September 6. The malos were fairly quick and were completed by April 2010. The wines were racked in June and bottled in early September. Perhaps it is inevitable with a total of ten different Chassagne premier crus in the lineup, but in this vintage not all of the wines are markedly different from each other. Soil-driven aromas of peach, fresh apricot, clove, marzipan and iodine. Fat-verging-on-thick in the mouth, with terrific concentration to the flavors of stone fruits, flowers and brown spices. An extremely dense yet vibrant wine with a very long, slowly mounting finish that throws off notes of flowers and spices.
