The 1990 Montrachet Grand Cru is a wine that reflects the growing season more than its propitious terroir. Brioche, white chocolate and dried honey, all furnish the surprisingly conservative nose, not short on power but a bit short on complexity given the vineyard. The palate is smooth and appealing with notes of nougat and dried honey, a little rounded in texture with a soft landing on the finish. What it is missing is nervosité and tension, whilst the 1989 Genevrières exhibited far more personality and terroir expression. Tasted at the mature white Burgundy dinner in Hong Kong.
