The ripe, massively scaled, opulently spiced, somewhat oaky, exotic and sexy fruit nose explodes from the glass to reveal lush, round, powerful, extremely deep flavors with intense acidity that is entirely buffered by the copious amount of extract. This is a very big wine and definitely for those who admire weighty Montrachet but despite the sheer size, this remains impeccably balanced and a tip of the hat to the finish which simply does not quit.

Any lists of candidates of the wines of the vintage would have to include Henri Boillot's sumptuous 2001 Montrachet. Spiced apples, pears and white chocolate nuances can be found in its expressive aromatics. Medium-bodied, hugely ripe (yet balanced) and dense, this sublime spicy, refined, powerful wine explodes in the mouth with a myriad of spices, honeyed minerals, pears, and buttered toast. Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
