Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Volnay 1er Cru Les Frémiets 2011 from François Parent has a ripe and generous bouquet with black cherries, crushed violet and a hint of blueberry – quintessential Volnay style. The palate is ripe and rounded with a fine thread of acidity that counterbalances the fleshy dark cherry and blackcurrant notes, the finish fleshy and generous. Lovely.

Really bright fruit here – light brush of tannins and not the deepest example – doesn’t have the power of some 2011s – but then perhaps Volnay shouldn’t anyway. (RH)
This is also exceptionally pretty with a perfumed nose of spicy essence of red pinot fruit that is liberally laced with wet stone nuances that can also be found on the round, supple and equally mineral-inflected medium weight flavors. There is a plush mouth feel to the mid-palate that doesn't have quite the same underlying tension of the Boucherottes and there is a mild touch of dryness on the backend the cuts the finish somewhat short. The tannins seem ripe and thus it's not clear what the source of the dryness might be. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2017+

Married to Anne-Françoise Gros of Domaine A.-F. Gros, François Parent also makes wine under his own name. He comes from the Pommard Parent family (of Domaine Parent) and his wines bear the image of a black truffle on the label.
