Of all the 1990 wines from Montille, I have reservations about the 1990 Volnay-Taillepieds. Normally I love the wines from this vineyard for their upfront charm, but this offering is so hard and lean that it would be foolish to suggest there is enough fruit and richness to survive the tannin. Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
