Medium orange-red. Expressive, evolved aromas of redcurrant, truffle and underbrush. Smooth and spicy on the palate, with a distinctly peppery, herbal element in the middle that remains just this side of dry. Offers good intensity and salinity but I wanted more fruit to support the strong, dusty tannins. Juicy and leathery on the finish, with redcurrant and earth notes. I'd drink this soon because even though it's rather austere in the mouth, it may be losing its remaining fruit. Lydie Boillot believes there's more ahead but I'm less confident.

Medium red. Aromas of cherry, leather and minerals. Sweet and silky but bright and pure, with good thrust. Offers lovely volume without any undue impression of weight. Here the tannins are more obvious than those of the Carelle, but there's also lovely lingering sweetness and good cut on the end. "This will be at its best in about ten years," opines Boillot. "It's a shame when the great years are drunk in conditions that are not ideal." He went on to say that the '91s were consumed young while the '90s were held, which he felt was largely a mistake.
Bright ruby-red. Rather wild aromas of black plum, black raspberry, bitter chocolate, leather and menthol. Big, rich and broad, with a flavor of bitter cherry and excellent vivacity. At once round and sturdy. Finishes with big, rich, chewy tannins.
