Punteggio 90+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2013

Good bright, dark red. Subtle scents of strawberry, raspberry and earth. Broad and fairly powerful, offering more breadth and flesh (this parcel dates back more than a century) but less early sweetness than the Vosne-Romanee Champs-Perdrix. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that call for a few years of patience.

The 2010 Savigny-les-Beaune La Dominode is absolutely fabulous in this vintage. It boasts gorgeous fleshiness in its dark red fruit. Mint, freshly cut flowers and spices are some of the nuances that develop in the glass. The Dominode is ultimately about energy and textural brilliance, both of which it has in spades. I loved it. This parcel was first planted in 1902. Roughly 40% of the original vines remain.

This is a fabulous set of wines from Bruno Clair and his long-time oenologist Philippe Brun. The harvest started on September 25. Yields were 22-30 hectoliters per hectare, which is to say a good 10% less than 2003, a torrid vintage marked by tiny yields. Clair describes the fruit as healthy, with no botrytis and soft tannins from the late harvest. The 2010s were 100% destemmed. New oak ranged from 25% for the villages to 50% for the Grand Crus, except for the Marsannays, which saw very little new oak. Very rich and sweet and fruity on the nose. Sweet and flattering and very juicy. Faces completely east. Much richer than most Savignys. (JR)
