Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2016-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2016

Good medium red. Aromas of raspberry and musky underbrush plus a hint of cinders. Strong red berry flavors display a lovely balance of energy and sweetness, not to mention superb mid-palate breadth. Finishes sweet, fresh and long, with thoroughly ripe tannins. A superb vintage for this bottling.

Medium red. Black cherry, licorice and smoky oak on the subtle nose. Supple and broad but vinous and light on its feet. This has the energy and vivacity I associate with the best wines from this estate. Explosive, gripping finish shows strong mineral spine and lovely length. Seventy percent of this cuvee still comes from vines planted in 1902. Give this six or seven years in the cellar.

(picked at the beginning of the harvest; the crop level here was just 28 hectoliters per hectare, according to Clair) Medium red. Nuanced nose combines red fruits, mocha, chocolate, flowers and underbrush. A step up in sweetness and concentration from the foregoing samples: creamy, layered and very long, with suave, ripe tannins. Aged in one-third new oak, but comes across as rather oaky today. A wine from 100-year-old vines; the vineyard was planted in 1902.

Heady. Intense nose and colour. Very, very full and broad. Fleshy. Lots of pleasure, if not that much subtlety. (JR)
