The 2010 Barolo Albe is a brawny and masculine wine with a thick bouquet that is enriched with dried fruit, fig, Indian spice, leather and chewing tobacco. Tertiary aromas have set in to add licorice, tar and crushed white pepper. Spice and clove appear on the close. This is a richly textured Nebbiolo that can be enjoyed within the next few years. Or, you could hold it longer.

The 2010 Barolo Albe has begun to close down in bottle. Today, the tannins dominate over the fruit, although from time to time the wine's personality begins to emerge. Rose petal, mint, sage and licorice meld together in a supple, racy Barolo endowed with both tons of near-term appeal and the potential to develop beautifully in bottle. Vajra crafts the Albe to be accessible young, but 2010 is a vintage in which a few years in bottle will only help. The Albe is one of the very finest Barolos in its price range.
Barolo. Youthful mid ruby. Really floral and perfumed and lifted. Ripe and sweet but with a lovely contrast of acidity. Ripe fruit standing up to really bold tannins. (WS)
