Medium red. Aromas of redcurrant liqueur, cherry candy, licorice and violet. Ripe, dry and suave, with moderate concentration and depth to the flavors of redcurrant, tobacco and dried flowers. Juicy acidity and an intriguing dusty edge give this highly aromatic wine an enticing character. Finishes suave and persistent, with dusty tannins that turn a tad dry with aeration.

I have had great luck with Roagna's Barbaresco Pajé recently and the 1999 is simply a magical wine. It displays a dark translucent ruby color along with expressive notes of super-ripe fruit, cough syrup, minerals, menthol, tar, licorice and violets that gradually appear on a structured, vibrant frame of notable depth and purity. One can only wonder if the selections will be even better.
