Punteggio 17/20 · FINE+RARE

This has a deep, inviting nose with the weight one gets from the very best Beaune vineyards. Sweet, rich red fruit and graphite minerality intermingle in the mouth. This has plenty of weight to it and is completely unforced. Very fine indeed. FINE+RARE

(one-third destemmed): Good full medium red. Slightly medicinal aromas of red berries, cherry and mocha. Thicker and sweeter than the Perrieres but with a light touch for its density. Savory and nicely done, finishing with suave tannins and very good length. Incidentally, Etienne de Montille describes his 2011 reds as "vibrantly fruity, crisp and transparent--like 2007 but with more mid-palate, a higher-toned acidity and better-quality tannins."

Great energy and some ballast. Crunchy finish. Not sweetened up. (JR)

(entirely destemmed due to some mildew here; 20% new oak): Good medium red. Sappy but discreet nose offers cherry, iron, licorice and menthol; this smells structured. Fleshier than the Sizies, with a saline savory quality to its black cherry fruit. Bright acidity gives life to the middle palate. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins, a note of vanilla and good length and grip.
