Note di degustazione
The 1995 Château Latour is an absolutely quintessential expression of this site, showing a deeper ruby hue with little bricking. It offers classic aromatics of dark currants, lead pencil, green tobacco, and graphite, with subtle underlying herbal and sweet cedar nuances. Medium to full-bodied, it’s concentrated and focused on the palate, with solid mid-palate depth and the austere, classy, aristocratic style that always emerges from this château. It benefits from air and should have another 30-40 years of longevity. It doesn’t have the sheer depth of fruit to compete with the truly great vintages here, but it’s nonetheless a brilliant wine that will satisfy any Latour lover. Drink 2026-2046.

Still concentrated and powerful, you could mistake this for a 1996 with its confidence muscular structure and dark spicy fruits. Just beginning to show truffle, mushroom and smoked earth as it unrolls in the palate, a thoroughly enjoyable wine. This was 2nd vintage under current director Frederic Engerer, harvest September 15 to 27, touch of rain during harvest after hot and dry summer, with three times less rain than average during June, July, August. In 1855, Latour was in the hands of the de Beaumont family, descendants of the long term de Ségur, who had arrived in 1670.
Lustrous deep crimson almost right out to the rim still. Hint of mint on the nose – quite aromatic. Pretty. Charming for a Latour grand vin! Though there is a strong undertow of graphite. More intense than 1996. (JR)
