Lovely bright yellow color. Pure, discreet aromas of peach and acacia flower. Lush and supple in the mouth, and yet the sappy white peach and pear flavors are vibrant and delineated. This has a compelling chewy texture, terrific concentration and lovely inner-palate energy. Finishes long, precise and aromatic. Boudot told me this was his favorite premier cru in 2002. I'd hold this five or six years before pulling the cork.

From a parcel of 50-year-old vines bordering Meursault Perrieres, Sauzet’s 2002 Puligny-Montrachet Les Champs-Canet was harvested at 13.4% natural potential alcohol. Resin-laced minerals and flowers can be found in its lively aromatics. Light to medium-bodied, concentrated, pure, and fleshy, this is a feminine wine of outstanding depth. Loads of syrupy minerals dominate this highly expressive, graceful beauty’s flavor profile. Anticipated maturity: now-2012. “I have only good things to say about 2002. It is the fourth in a series of good vintages, starting with the 1999s. There was no rot, great maturity, and excellent balance to add backbone,” said Gerard Boudot, Sauzet’s winemaker. He went on to add, “2002 is a very good vintage. Some people compare it to 1996, but those were much more austere wines. Some people speak of 1992, but it is livelier.
