Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2013-2017, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

The 2011 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru is a blend of two parcels in the lieux-dits of Les Duresses and Grands Champs that have been blended since 2007. It has a precise, understated bouquet with scents of wild strawberry and orange blossom, while the palate is well-balanced with a pleasing, sappy entry and a smooth, bright finish of red currant and strawberry. This is a step up from the Village Cru. Drink now-2017. Taupenot-Merme was my final visit of the week. I have been following these wines for a number of years, even predating my wine writing career. Winemaker Romain Taupenot and his sister Virginie run the domaine in the centre of Morey-Saint-Denis and fashion a classical style of Burgundy wine that I feel has improved in recent years. Their 2011s are well-crafted and are mainly predesigned for early to mid-term consumption. Importers: Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620; Scott Paul Wines, Carlton, OR; tel. Robust and slightly rustic tannins. Quite marked tannins and acidity. Not charming but quite forceful. (JR)

An exuberantly fresh nose of earth and ripe dark berry fruit and black cherry is trimmed in a background touch of wood. There is good volume to the rich, round and very supple flavors that possess good volume and phenolically mature tannins, all wrapped in a balanced finish that displays only mild rusticity. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2017+
