Slightly deeper color than the Abbaye de Morgeot. Very reticent nose hints at pear. Very sweet and deep, with a strong pear flavor. But comes across as drier and less precise than the Abbaye de Morgeot, without that wine's class. Dominated by its structure today. Rather powerful finish verges on tannic. This was just bottled.

Low-key nose with just a hint of lemon but on the palate it is apparently irremediably introvert and hard work. (JR)
Produced from 35 hectoliter per hectare yields, in a vintage where 50 hectoliters per hectare was the norm, the 2002 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Duc de Magenta bursts from the glass with Johnson’s Baby Powder spices and white flower scents. Big, bold, expansive, and satiny-textured, it is a medium-bodied wine crammed with pears, apples, and talcum powder whose flavors linger in its extensive, supple finish. Projected maturity: 2007-2015. Importer: Kobrand, Inc., New York, NY; tel. (212) 490-9300

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
