Punteggio 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2011

Pale yellow-straw. Aromas of lemon, spices, menthol, flowers and stone. Dry and penetrating in the mouth, with citrus fruit flavors and a strong suggestion of liquid minerality. Not especially rich, but showing more stony cut than it did from barrel a year ago. Wait two or three years and then serve this with a grilled or poached sole, Boudot suggests.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2012-2019, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Aug 2011

The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne emerges from the glass with beautifully delineated layers of fruit. It is a precise, finely cut Puligny laced with exquisite aromatics and finely chiseled fruit. A persistent vein of minerality frames the delicate, understated finish. This is a classy effort from Sauzet. Gerard Boudot describes the terrain here as quite poor. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. This is a beautiful set of wines from Etienne Sauzet. Proprietor Gerard Boudot emphasized the importance of keeping yields low and picking early. The harvest began on September 7. Boudot did a very light batonnage, and the wines saw approximately 20% new oak. The 2009s were bottled beginning in August 2010, but the premier and grand crus weren’t bottled until March 2011. Pale yellow. Lemon drop on the nose, lifted by fresh herbs. Lemony but rich and ripe; in a softer style but with good stony lift. Fuller than the village wine and showing less tension and complexity now. I wanted a bit more cut.
