2008 Barolo Bricco Boschis

The 2008 Barolo Bricco Boschis is highly representative of the vintage. A rich, dark, powerful wine, the 2008 also boasts tons of inner sweetness and perfume. Despite its considerable appeal, the 2008 is a wine that today is dominated by its structure and the cool vibrancy that is the hallmark of the year. This is far from an easy going entry-level Barolo. Readers would do well to forget about the 2008 for at least five years, but that may not be enough.

Blackish ruby. Relatively opulent but with some real interest on the nose. Tea leaves. Pure and intense. More forward than many but no ersatz sweetness. Some lift on the finish. Dry and neat. Beautiful balance. Cool and fresh. Finishes dry but not drying. Very pure. (JR)

Castiglione Falletto. Deep ruby with the beginning of orange. Cherry and orange and beginning of dried fruit. Sweet concentration matched with lifted acidity. Big, bold dry tannin. Very good, but will need time. (WS)
