The 2000 Barolo Sorì Ginestra shows tons of intensity in its dark fruit. It remains young and vibrant, with perhaps another decade of fine drinking ahead. Resin, pine, mocha, spices and menthol wrap around the engaging, seductive finish.

The 2000 Barolo Sori Ginestra shows tons of intensity in its dark fruit. It remains young and vibrant, with perhaps another decade of fine drinking ahead. Resin, pine, mocha, spices and menthol wrap around the engaging, seductive finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. Conterno-Fantino’s 2000s showed beautifully when I tasted them at the estate in November 2010. The wines aren’t built for the long-term, but they have matured evenly.
Near Monforte. Deeply coloured with almost opaque core and wide brackish rim. Aromas of leather, tar and roses and an inviting meaty sweetness. tightly structured and elegant. Lovely balance of crisp acidity, full ripe firm tannins and complex flavours. Long finish. (JH)
Good medium red. Highly aromatic nose combines red berries, minerals and cedary oak. Sweet and lush, but with strong underlying spine. A step up in definition from the Vigna del Gris, and yet this is also seamless and velvety. Finishes with suave, building tannins and excellent length. Over the past decade or more, Conterno-Fantino's Sori Ginestra has been consistently outstanding.
