Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2004-2011, Pierre Rovani, Feb 2004

Fresh white fruits spiced with a hint of oak can be discerned in the aromatic profile of the 2002 Chassagne-Montrachet Tete du Clos. This fat, rich, lush, and medium-bodied wine is the essence of golden Chardonnay berries. This dense super-ripe wine offers flavors reminiscent of poached pears and white peaches that linger in its lengthy finish. It should be drunk over the next 6-7 years. According to Vincent Dancer, he and his fellow vignerons “were terrified in early September that nothing would ripen, we were saved by two weeks of magnificent weather composed of strong winds from the North.” He added that “the sun wasn’t really powerful, the days were cool, but the grapes were concentrated and ripened over a two week period.” A big fan of the 2002s, Dancer said “what I love is their stuffing and lengthy finishes.” He is a bright young grower with a huge future ahead of him; Burgundy enthusiasts need to remember this name!
