Punteggio 91-93/100 · Da bere 2030-2048, Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2026

The 2025 Le Carillon d'Angélus is raised in 50% new oak, 25% used barrel and 25% in stainless-steel vat. It has a well-defined and focused bouquet with blackberry, blueberry, light oyster shell/estuarine scents that lend another dimension (these were accentuated by the thinner Riedel glass that I requested). The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, well balanced, a tad more tension than the No. 3, with more depth on the finish. Gentle grip, quite linear in style, but there is satisfying persistency on the finish. Very fine.

A beautiful, classy second wine from Angélus, the 2025 Le Carillon De Angélus is based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. It reveals ripe cassis and juicy berry fruits on the nose, along with spring flowers, graphite, and well-integrated wood. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, pure, and clean, with nicely balanced structure and a great finish.

Flowers, citrus peel, spearmint, plums, and cherries define the aromatic profile. The palate continues along the same line, delivering elegant layers of black cherries, raspberries, spice, and a touch of sea salt, with a bit of chalk on the backend of the finish. I really like the sweetness in the fruits balanced by its lift and energy. With a year or so in the bottle, you can enjoy this wine for at least 12 to 15 years after that. The wine blends 90% Merlot, with 10% Cabernet Franc.

The 2025 Le Carillon d'Angélus is another gorgeous wine from the De Bouärd family. Dark-fleshed fruit, leather, incense and licorice convey somber intensity. This is far from an easygoing wine. Readers should plan on cellaring this for at least a few years, as it is quite potent in the early going. Gravel and lavender develop toward the long, beautifully resonant finish.
