Punteggio 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2010

Good deep red. Captivating nose combines black raspberry, flowers, spices and minerals. Concentrated, sweet and impressively deep, with the candied ripeness of the year buffered by sheer density of material and complicated by intriguing hints of earth, spices and game. In a rather backward style, finishing with building tannins. This is opulent, but today I find more finishing grip and spice, not to mention energy, in the Bonnes-Mares.

(aged in 55% new oak) Good deep red. Musky aromas of black raspberry, game and smoky oak, with nuances of faded flowers, blood orange, incense and licorice. Silky and classy, with lovely delineation to the berry, cocoa powder, licorice, floral and subtle earth flavors. This very complex, soil-driven wine really spreads out to coat the palate on the long, vibrant finish. As sexy as this is, it's not especially open today.
