Pale-medium ruby-garnet. Lovely, attractive floral and orange-peel scent. Nutty complexity and beautiful integration with the relatively ripe fruit. Firm, structured, grainy tannins still need to resolve, but there’s plenty of fine-quality fruit to carry it. Come back in five years! Long. (TJ)

La Fornace presents a bold and powerful style that can appear over the top in a warm vintage. But the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino comes from a slightly cooler growing season, and this makes all the difference. It ultimately creates greater balance in the wine and more acidic freshness to counter those aromas of dark fruit and dried blackberries. Drink this wine within the next 10 years or so.
Lustrous ruby. Alluring nose of cherry with oak notes. The oak becomes even more evident on the palate adding sweetness to the fruit. Lots of grainy tannins while the oak becomes a little too dominant and attention-grabbing on the finish. (WS) (JR)
