1993 Beaune Clos des Ursules

Jadot's Beaune premier crus are generally fine wines. I thought Jadot hit the bull's eye with their Beaune Les Boucherottes, Beaune Les Teurons, Beaune Couchereaux, and Beaune Clos des Ursules. The Beaune Clos des Ursules is always one of the top wines of the Jadot portfolio. The outstanding 1993 possesses plenty of tannin (5 years of cellaring is recommended), but it is a medium to full-bodied, powerful, muscular, superbly-concentrated wine with deep, spicy fruit, excellent purity, and a mouth filling richness. Although not as flattering or fat as the 1989, or as high-class as the 1990, it is, nevertheless, a classy, top-notch effort from Jadot. It should last for two decades. Jadot produced a high percentage of successful wines in 1993. There are also disappointments, particularly in the lower appellations which have turned out tough and tannic. There is no Jadot house style, save for rich, well-delineated, structured wines that stand the test of time. As a vintage, 1993 is less consistently excellent than 1990 or 1989. In 1988, all the grand crus were bottled without filtration. That vintage was followed in 1990 and subsequent vintages, with all the premier and grand crus bottled without fining or filtration.
