From a parcel planted in 1929, Guy Roulot's birth year, the 2023 Meursault Meix 1929 offers up a more reductive, iodine-inflected bouquet than the regular bottling, with more concentration and texture on the palate. Not much is produced, but it's worth a special effort to seek out.

Tank sample. Mid lemon. Apple and lemon, fresh and crystalline. Quite weighty on the palate, but with an elegant, dry finish. Lots of energy and freshness. (MH)
The 2023 Meursault Meix Chavaux Cuvée 1929 will form a special release from a few rows of vines planted in that year. Incidentally, that was when Jean-Marc's father was born, so it also acts as a homage. It has an intense hazelnut and flinty bouquet with more depth than the regular cuvée, gaining amplitude as it responds to aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. It's long and very persistent on the finish with an oyster shell-tinged aftertaste. Just two barrels were produced and Roulot mentioned that it will be released later than his other cuvées. Form an orderly queue.
