Punteggio 91/100 · Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jun 2013

Compared to the ’09 tasted alongside, the 2004 Meix Chavaux seems a little muted on the nose with tertiary, almost undergrowth-like aromas. The nose is deceptive because the palate is vibrant and citrus-fresh – bright and animated with a tense, orange zest finish that leaves you satisfied. It almost feels like this is a two-track Meursault, the aromatics evolving with more alacrity than the palate! Tasted March 2013.

(April bottling) Soft citrus fruits and spices on the nose. Dense and ripe but bracing, with noteworthy intensity of flavor and a distinctly steely minerality. Strong acids give this penetration and cut. Finishes persistent and firm-edged. This should develop slowly in bottle. Still, Roulot believes that the 2005 growing season was more favorable for minerally, high-acid sites like this one.

Spices and soft citrus fruits on the nose. Juicy, leanish and bright, with a lemony flavor. Offers good cut but only modest fat. (The Vireuils was in the middle of its malolactic fermentation.)
