Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2019-2025, Neal Martin, Mar 2018

The 1989 Meursault Les Narvaux sports a paler color than either the 1991 or 1993 Narvaux. It is well-defined and fresh on the nose, which is commendable considering its maturity, developing a slight algae-like scent with continued aeration. The palate remains vigorous and tensile with notes of honeydew melon and citrus peel, saline towards the second half with that acidity keeping everything tight and racy, so much so that you almost forget its age. It is not a complex Meursault, and yet there is breeding and class sewn into this wine. 2367 bottles produced. Tasted at the d'Auvenay dinner in Hong Kong.

Leave it to Lalou Bize-Leroy to produce some of the richest, most concentrated, and unctuous white burgundies anyone is ever going to taste. Lalou Bize-Leroy's 1989 Meursault-Les Narvaux may be the best example I have yet to taste from this domaine. The huge nose of smoke, hazelnuts, oranges and pineapples is breathtaking. In the mouth, there is spectacular concentration, with a honeyed texture, adequate acidity, and a whopping alcoholic, rich finish. Drink this blockbuster white burgundy over the next 10 years. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Rafael, CA.
