Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2023-2045, Neal Martin, Aug 2021

The 2017 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru is tight but well-defined on the nose, quite powerful and complex; touches of pressed yellow flowers and gunflint emerge with time in the glass. The palate is finely balanced and poised, with a spicy, almost Les Preuses-like opening. Vibrant and energetic, and there is a real lick of salinity on the finish. Superb. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

Bessin’s 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur has evolved beautifully, retaining superb balance and a promising sense of unspent potential. It is brilliant, offering a deep bouquet of orange peel, apricot and iodine, mingled with beeswax and a hint of gunflint. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, layered with a sense of plenitude and texture that few wines possess. It is built around a muscular core and underpinned by racy acidity and structuring extract, culminating in a long, chalky finish. This is as good as mid-term mature Chablis gets— not to be missed.
