The 1928 Doisy-Daëne, the oldest vintage that I have tasted from Denis Dubourdieu's domaine to date, demonstrated just how well this Barsac can age, much like the magnum of 1934 encountered last year. What is remarkable is that it has retained that signature Barsac nose: barley sugar, a touch of chlorine (tyical of ancient Barsac in particular). The palate is not as elegant as the Doisy-Védrines '28, perhaps not quite as nuanced, though felt weightier in the mouth. This is a "bigger" Barsac with tangy marmalade furnishing the powerful vintage. This is an excellent Doisy-Daëne that has aged with aplomb, although it was clearly approaching the end of its mortal coil.
