The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Gain 1er Cru shows a little more creamy oak on the nose, though it is simpatico with the fruit. Lychee and white chocolate hints surface with time in the glass. It seems to lose some of its initial focus with aeration. The palate is fresh and saline on the entry. A pleasant pepperiness develops on the back palate, though the summer's warmth just shaves away some of the terroir expression and mineralité on the finish. Fine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Another success is the 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain, a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated wine evocative of citrus oil, pear, nutmeg and white flowers. Penetrating and tensile, it's well worth seeking out.
